Photo No. 3 - Carson City Windmill

There’s a windmill in the middle of Carson City that we’ve been driving past for years. I’ve always thought it would be great for photos, but we always seem to be on a mission when we come upon it, or I haven’t had my camera on me at the time. Construction on a new housing development has begun across the street, acting as a reminder that the scene won’t be available forever…

What do I like about this photo

The windmill stands out as a clear subject, with the leading lines of both the fence and clouds acting as supporting subjects. I also like the contrast of the green grass against the orange/red colors of the windmill and the structure off to the right.

What do I dislike about this photo

I’m not sure if I got the edit right again… I used a previous photo that I edited as a reference, and think it helped, but it just feels a little off.

What could I do to improve upon this photo

  • I needed to walk away from the photo to allow myself the opportunity to review the edit with fresh eyes.

  • I suspect that the photo may have been more interesting if the perspective was from a lower view, so as to make the windmill appear larger than it really is.

  • The photo looks overexposed on the website when compared to Lightroom, and is probably overexposed in lightroom as well. I should reduce the brightness by something like .1 stops.

Extra photo-nerd info about the photo:

  • Camera: Fuji x-pro2

  • Lens: 23mm (35mm equivalent) f/1.4
