Photo No. 8 - Name that airport!

First day of vacation!  My wife and I try to visit at least one new city or country a year, and we have a pretty good time exploring and photographing all of the new experiences along the way.  Today’s a travel day however, and since all the cameras and lenses are packed up for the first leg of our trip across the country, I expected that I’d miss another day of photos. As it happened to turn out, we had a three hour layover at an airport with some cool exposed trusses and structural beams above the terminal.

I’m writing this bit before editing any of the photos to make a note that there are are already several things I wish I had done differently.  The photo that I think turned out the best is made of several suspended walkways in front of one another.  I wish that I had waited to take the photo for when there was a person on more one walkway, to add a greater sense of depth to the image. I also think I could have had better compositions if I took out the 28-70 zoom, but then I’m certain I would have attracted a lot more attention.

Anyway onto the photo, and today I have three to share!

What I like about this photo?

I’m really fond of the geometry in all three photos, but I’m not sure if it will appeal to everyone; it may just be the engineer side of me that’s drawn to these features.

All three photos naturally had a blue/green cast to them, and when the woman in the red shirt walked across the frame I was pretty eager to snap a pic.  I’ve been researching color theory a bit over the past week, and while I’m sure I didn’t hit the target exactly, I think I like the contrasting result of the red and blue/green.

What I dislike about this photo

I don’t like how flat the image feels, but I’m not sure how to address that when editing in Lightroom on an ipad.  On my desktop, I would have masked out several of the foreground features to add a slight amount of presence, but the ipad version of the app doesn’t seem to support object masking.

What could I have done differently to improve this photo

I should have been more patient for all three of the bridges to have a person walking across before taking the photo.

I could have used the zoom lens for a better crop, but that may have compressed the image too much.

I should have used the zoom lens to look for more compositions to pull out of the geometric shapes in the steel trusses.

Now for the last two photos:
