Photo No. 5 - Gliding

I caught a paraglider roaming above Prison Hill in Carson Valley today! However I think the subject is perhaps more interesting than the composition, but it’s a fun photo none the less!

What do I like about this photo

  • I like that the ground beneath the glider gives perspective the size of the glider. He’s not just some floating person in a sea of blue.

  • I like the angle of the glider in the scene. I think I snapped about 94 photos trying to get a few that were workable though!

What do I dislike about this photo

It feels like a snapshot… the subject is interesting, and I think I did a decent enough job on the spot at finding compositions that included the glider, but I don’t feel like I created the photo.

What could i have done to improve this photo

  • I don’t really like this answer, but… perhaps I should have taken more photos to get a better composition?

  • Some of the photos came out a little soft, and I should have increased the shutter speed & iso to reduce camera shake. I also wonder if the other possible cause could have been occasional misses with the image stabilization?

  • And of course I could have ran further across the hill looking for more composition opportunities.
