Weekend trip to Jenner by the Sea

This past week was the spring break for the students of the University of Nevada Reno, and to kick it off, my wife and I took a trip to Jenner where I snapped a few photos along the way.  The town of Jenner appears to mostly be dedicated to operating a collection of cottages which they rent out to tourists.  From the outside they appear to be very inviting, however upon closer inspection, and after spending a night in one we soon found out that they were mostly held together by a fresh coat of paint and rubber cement.  The drive up and down that part he Highway 101, the scenery and what hiking is to be had is certainly reason enough to visit Jenner, but one should at least know what there getting into.

The beaches, while generally un-swimmable were incredible.  Lots of craggy rocks strewed about created great contrast for photographs.  The dogs also had a great time playing in the waves, although I should mention that the majority (if not all?) of california beaches are leash zones for dogs.  However in spite of such rules we came across quite a few leash-less dogs roaming the beaches with there owners.

The trip was also a great opportunity to reconnect with my Sigma 85mm f1.4 lens I loaned to my cousin almost a year and a half ago.  Though it was a little too much zoom for most of the situations I was photographing, the super wide aperture was great for creating dynamic scenes and drawing focus to a given subject.  The lens also also allowed me to use the Marumi ND-10000 filter to great success at creating a misty ocean effect.  To view the rest of the photos from this trip, check out the Jenner (20MAR15) gallery posted below.
